“Dancing Queen” has endured over 23 years and is still kicking today, making regular appearances on radio stations around the world. It’s still a popular dance song, having found its place as the 33rd most successful song in music history, and is probably the first song people think of when they think of ABBA.

“Dancing Queen” did amazingly well on the charts, hitting number one in no less than 15 countries during its release and netting high spots in the rest of the musically-inclined countries as well. Its since become a staple of modern culture and has been used and parodied in a variety of media ever since its release.

I Stand Alone is a solo album released by former ABBA singer and lyricist Agnetha Faltskog. It was the third and final of her 1980’s post-ABBA albums, and the last before she took a 14 year break from music.

The album did fairly well in the UK, hitting number one for eight weeks in Sweden and piercing the top 20 charts of Norway and Belgium. It suffered somewhat elsewhere in the world, however, despite the influence of American producers (she recorded the album in Los Angeles; that would mark her last plane trip, as she’s fearful of flying).

I Stand Alone was also the subject of several promo videos, those videos made for songs the likes of “The Last Time”, “I Wasn’t the One” and “Let It Shine”.

I Stand Alone features the following tracks:
“The Last Time”
“Little White Secrets”
“I Wasn’t the One (Who Said Goodbye)”
“Love In A World Gone Mad”
“Maybe It Was Magic”
“Let It Shine”
“We Got A Way”
“I Stand Alone”
“Are You Gonna Throw It All Away”
“If You Need Somebody Tonight”

No member of ABBA could ever forget the success they had in the past. Certainly not singer Agnetha Faltskog, whose solo career was built off of the still burning embers of the hit group.

But one of the members has, and in fact it’s Faltskog’s former husband, Bjorn Ulvaeus. It was discovered recently that Ulvaeus is slowly losing his memory of his time with the band. He’s even forgotten the win at a contest in 1974 that propelled ABBA into the limelight.

So Ulvaeus is trying a new tactic: hypnosis, coupled with refreshment of the eyes. He’s going through old photos of his time with the band to try and fill the gaps in his mind. Will it work? Well, only time will tell.

Faltskog and Ulvaeus divorced in 1980.

But not with Agnetha Faltskog. The popular ABBA singer and relatively successful recording artist has a long history of writing songs for herself and for the band (though other members did contribute as well). Critics and fans alike noted Faltskog’s particular adeptness in writing lyrics in schlager style (literally translated as ‘a hit’), which characterizes high energy, simple, happy tunes based on sentimentality and sweet relationships.

Just listen to any of ABBA’s songs and you’ll understand.

Never heard of Agnetha Faltskog before? Not being European might be one of your problems, then. Perhaps you’ve heard of the slightly more popular band form which she gained notoriety first: ABBA. The first A in the band’s name comes from Agnetha.

But Faltskog has power enough to survive just fine on her own without her band mates. Just look at one of her English albums, Agnetha Faltskog Wrap Your Arms Around Me.

Released in 1983, Wrap Your Arms Around Me is chalk full of quality music, including Can’t Shake Loose which actually did manage to shake loose of Europe and found a place on the U.S Billboard Hot 100, ranking in at 29th. Other hits on the album include The Heat Is On, Shame, Mr. Persuasion, Wrap Your Arms Around Me, Take Good care Of Your Children and Stand By My Side. Give her music a try; you won’t be disappointed.

 1. Heat Is On, The
2. Can’t Shake Loose
3. Shame

Here are a few quick quote excepts from Agnetha’s book As I Am: Abba Before and Beyond by Agnetha Faltskog with Brita Ahman

On Frida: I admit there was a strong sense of competition within both of us. I don’t want to hide the fact that Frida and I had opposite backgrounds, temperaments and personalities. We could get furious and tired with each other, so we had our moments.

On Bjorn: we fell deeply in love during a television recording in May 1969. Bjorn was warm and tender. He had a charming voice and was an artist, like me.

On the divorce: when Bjorn and I separated we told the media it was a “happy” divorce, which, of course, was a front we all know there is no such thing as a happy divorce.

On the break-up of the band: we had an unspoken agreement when it no longer seems fun, we’ll call it a day. Talk of me ending Abba’s career is wrong.

On the songs: it’s hard to tell when a hit is being made. Dancing Queen was an exception: we knew immediately it was going to be huge. The same thing with Fernando and Chiquitita, which sent shivers up the spine straight away. But the best of all Abba songs is The Winner Takes It All a small masterpiece.

On the band’s image: the press were a little surprised that we didn’t have bigger rave-ups, but instead could often be found jogging and exercising. But we did have wild times.

On winning the Eurovision song contest: it was just unbelievable when Waterloo won. To calm my nerves I started getting dressed early. I’d bought some small stars, which glittered beautifully, and glued them to my cheeks as a way of preparing myself, of getting into character.

On the future: sometimes I get the urge to do something again. A few years ago it was totally inconceivable. But I am conscious of having a special voice, so there are days when it feels tempting.

Back in 1980, Swedish songstress and ABBA member Agnetha Faltskog had gotten into the Christmas spirit, and she brought her seven-year-old daughter Linda along. Linda’s debut was an album of Christmas standards, entitled “Nu tanda tusen Juleljus”, which is translated as “A Thousand Candles are Being Lit.” Listeners will be familiar with the classic strains of “Jingle Bells”, but the vividly-orchestrated songs are sung in the Faltskogs’ native Swedish. Several of Agnetha’s former bandmates were on hand for the recording, as well as ABBA engineer Michael Tretow. In addition to singing backup for her mother, Linda Faltskog takes a few numbers by herself.

My Colouring Book was the name of Agnetha Faltskog’s 2004 album release, the album previous to this was released 17 years before. for someone returnign from self-enforced retirement the album did extremely well with fans and critics alike.

The singles from the album were When You Walk in the Room and If I Thought You’d Ever Change Your Mind, the latter reaching number 11 in the UK. The album itself reached a high of number 6 in Germany. Half a million copies have been sold so far. Below I’ve added a track list, if you get a chance listen to Sometimes When I’m Dreaming, for me it’s the best song on the album.
